Novelty Japanese menu items in Chekhov restaurant, Kharkov

Such representative of Japanese cuisine as sushi has become common in the menus of Ukranian restaurants and almost for a decade it has been considered an exquisite delicacy in this country. Despite the fact that initially it was ranked as a premium dish which could be eaten only in a few restaurants … now almost every café can offer classic rolls and sashimi. Nevertheless, one should be very attentive and serious when choosing this product.


Traditions are one of the most important elements of Japanese eating ceremony. There’s no such a phrase in Japanese that means “bon appétit” or “enjoy your meal”. Meals in Japan traditionally begin with the phrase “itadakimasu”, which literally means “I humbly receive [this meal]“.
